Locations are tags similar to hashtags and mentions. That's why they don't directly show up in the search results, though they are used to filter nearby results.
What you see on facebook or google+ are actor nodes associated with locations. You can build an Anahita actor called com_places and then tag each places with the appropriate location(s) then the places show up directly in the search results. Although Anahita groups are now geolocatable and can be used as generic places.
