Organizing the first Anahita DocCamp Event

I have been cooking up the idea of organizing the first Anahita documentation camp which will also be the first official Anahita event for all the tribe members to participate.

The objective of this event will be sharing and documenting our Anahita knowledge so it become part of the collective mind of the Anahita tribes.

This is how it works, we set day when participants, from any location they are in the world, take some time to learn one aspect of Anahita very well and write a page about it. They can publish the page on any medium of their choice for example either here on Anahitapolis or their own personal blog.

To make the process more efficient, we can compile a list of topics that we all want to learn and know about and participants can select a topic in advance that they are interested in writing about.

I will be organizing a local gathering in that day in Vancouver. I will be giving a 20 min talk about Anahita at the beginning and then we all get started.

Some people can volunteer to copy the content that are posted on personal blogs and publish them as pages on Anahitapolis and provide a link back to the original contributor.

There will be social media activity on twitter, facebook, and Anahitapolis blog. We can all share pictures and videos from wherever we are and hashtag them with #anahita.

We will be happy to write a short paragraph and link back to the websites of contributors from our blog.

I am thinking sometime during the first 2 weeks of November. I yet have to secure a venue in Vancouver. Some of you may want to join us in Vancouver.

I was also thinking of a pilot version of doc camp with a smaller number of people in one or two weeks.

Any thoughts and ideas, hit me up please.

I'd like to come up from Portland, OR. I may fly up, but I'd consider driving if there are others who are interested in carpooling.

Great idea Rastin! There are two main points for open source success: an avid community and documentation. We have the community and with Anahita 3.0 just about giving birth, documentation will be a key to its continous success and growth.

Count me in...

What a splendid idea. I am not sure if this could be a part of a DocCamp event - but I have sometimes been missing short video tutorials about Anahita. Perhaps this could be a nice event to present a short video totorial - of a topic - to inspire other tribemembers createing more and share?

Sounds awesome!  I'll be sure to help out anyway I can.  Maybe we can open the pages app on the Tribe Support group to Followers so we can post some of the articles there?  That seems to be the most logical place for them, at least to me.  I was thinking of making a page about Template Overrides for starters.

Not sure I'd be able to attend in person at that time but great concept.

@Sheldon we will be thrilled to have you here in person

@Dave we can write more docs on the Anahita iOS SDK, CocoPod, and more

@Augusto very true. Documentation is the way to share the knowledge and make it part of the collective memory of the tribe.

@Bent Video Tutorials are welcome too so will diagrams. Any form of documentation will be helpful

@Nick that's a good idea, we will do so.

@Scott you don't have to attend in person. Participating from the comfort of your home office, living room, or any place that you wish. All you need is a wifi and your laptop.

@all don't forget to post pictures from wherever you will be contributing from. Let's make this event happen in many countries around the world. It will be exciting.

@Rastin, are certain parts of the code less stable in so much as the tribes might not want to burn calories documenting? Maybe it's worthwhile to work out some form of scope, I.e. build strong documentation on aspects the should be stable longer term, less emphasis on aspects that might be transitional in nature?

@Scott a lot of Anahita concepts are well established and haven't changed. For example actors, mediums, nodes, entities, edges, etc.

API changes are bound to happen. That is just a fact of life when it gets to frameworks. In the mean time when a sufficient number of people get involved in documenting the technology, then we can keep up with the changes too. It worked in other open source projects such as Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, etc. We should try it too.

Makes sense, great to see the ongoing progress not just with the code but among the community as well.
