My project with Content items - social engine relationship

Hi guys.

Here\'s something from my project\'s viewpoint. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated. Please move this to the appropriate section:

The site is a social storytelling website. It has the news/docu style content and it has the people who interact with each other around the content.

Content can be text, images, audio, video based or a combination. Content can be in multiple languages. Content can be in one or more categories. Content can have tags and extra fields.

Content will be written by user type \'paid professionals\' ( who will also be allowed to publish to frontpage without approvals) and user type amateurs (whose content will be first user rated ala digg.com and then approved finally by user type Editor). These two user types can post across categories and languages on the site. We will need to display content as per user types, categories, tags, upcoming, by way of hits, rating, most commented etc.

Users maintain their profiles and interact with each other using, obviously, Anahita. They can upload photos and other media as part of these stories (site content) explained above or as standalone entries(like on Facebook).

Users can favourite content, rate them, subscribe to particular authors - these are integrated with Anahita. Commenting system for the stories are integrated with anahita\'s discussion topics as threads under respective sections. (Each story has a thread of its own in the discussion board, and the comments appear at the bottom of the story as well)

Users are provided with subdomains (public profile view page). Partners to have official subdomains (like youtube channels or facebook page) which will feature their content.

This is the project very briefly explained. For starters, I was considering K2 for content building and then considered integration with Anahita, but was adviced against this on the skype room. Can you guys advice me please?

Thanks! #anahita #social #development

Hi Srikanth

I was just talking about this with Rastin recently. I was thinking of having a com_content for Anahita that would wrap the Joomla articles in the Anahita Medium Node hence allowing to be commented and tagged at the same time keeping all the contents organized in Joomla com_content

K2 is another choice but they offer some parallel functionality such as commenting and tagging. The problem with that is in the long run you would end up with two sets of comments and tags (k2 and anahita). I don\'t think that\'s a good user experience.

I myself keen on the anahtia com_content that uses the Joomla native articles and load it with more features.

What do you think ?
Thanks Ash. Rastin was telling me about Nooku heading this way as well. I haven\'t looked deeper into that. Is it going to be what you said as well, \"uses the Joomla native articles and load it with more features\"?

Nooku translation uses Joomla native articles. I believe so. But once I get some free time after this release I would definitely look into building a simple wrapper for Joomla Articles
Another problem with K2 (other than comments and tags) is, it\'s got its own plugins to add videos and images. It\'s going to get messy handling anahita images and videos separately and the ones inserted in the content items. We need to have complete integration there for the user experience to be really good. But how? :)
Also, forgot to ask about Nooku Content - any idea what\'s in the featurelist and what\'s on the roadmap? Their website talks mainly about the multilingual aspect of the framework and not about the Content building part. I\'ve signed up on their site, but haven\'t been given access yet. Any inside info that you guys can share?

Hi Srikanth,

Why not using Anahita Blogs for this purpose? Everybody get their own blog to Post stories and community can rate, comment, and tag them. Popular stories find their way to the front page.

and where and how people would want to do their discussions we better leave that to the community. Some may prefer to continue a discussion on the story comments or choose to take it to a discussion board topic.
A fair idea by all means. I need to explore this more. What\'s the relationship between the com_content items and anahita blog?

No relationship what so ever.

Blog posts will be extended media nodes. They can be commented on, tagged, followed. Instead of joining joomla articles to nodes we can just make blog posts out of nodes.
I thought as much. This gives rise to the next question. Is there a way to do these blog posts in categories and with custom fields? (like CCK).

yes - categories are custom media nodes, and also blog posts can be tagged. In this design even categories are commentable

Developing a blog for Anahita would be simple. We can modify and reuse the code from com_discussions and com_photos to build the com_blogs since their core idea is pretty much the same. I\'d say in 50 hours we can build a blogging social app for Anahita.

the com_content concept is something I like to do myself that allows commenting and tagging for native Joomla article. it\'s more of a favorite challenge.

but if you want a organic and social solution definitely the blog is a better choice.

Hi guy\'s

1st of all. Please forgive me my english. I\'m trying the best but ...

Great idea Srikanth ! but don\'t forget about one important functionality. User who creates an article or any other content would like to maintain an order in all parts of his content\'s

Would be great! if each user gets it\'s own folder - for all ( his own only ) media added to his content\'s. Look on the Azrul\'s MyBlog component to see it in practise.

And another one suggestion :

You could think about additional Google AdSense module geared to the content of articles as well as the contents of private correspondence.

This module should be displayed ( only ) when user reads an article / articles as well as when he read and write private message.

This module will increase its effectiveness if will refresh advertisements every 3 - 4 min\'s. ( AJAX based )

ok, thats all.

my 1st 2 cents
