What is offered in the Anahita Social Engine ™ stand alone

A while ago @Cyndy and @Megan asked this question and unfortunately the topic got deleted by accident (/me ask for confirmation before deleting)

To simplify the answer in the Anahita 0.9.4 (existing demo) take Photos and Discussions out, and what's left is the Anahita Social Engine. Anahita Social Engine is also accompanied by the Anahita framework - available as a plugin - which provides all the required APIs for developing social apps.

We will be offering the Social Engine part for free download (Yes as free beer) and distribute everything else (Social Apps, Extensions) via paid membership programs: Partners, Community Members etc. Of course all the distributed code from Anahitapolis will be accompanied with the GPL 2.0 license which means once you obtain a copy there will be no restrictions on how many times you can use it. Anahita is a commercial open source project, which means while being "free as liberty" not everything is necessarily "free as free beer" like the other none-for-profit projects such as Joomla or Drupal.

#anahita #social #networking #engine

Thank you for the info. The basic social engine includes quite a lot, then. I think the Joomla community will be very excited about this.

I agree entirely about free as in liberty. Liberty comes at a very high price, actually. I don't think programmers/developers should invest this much of time and resources, for nothing. They deserve a lot of respect and appreciation for what they are contributing to web development.

You're most welcome!

It's true developing software is still a time/cost intensive process. Projects such as wordpress did build a business around the GPL model and they have been quite successful in both domains.

Anahita Social Engine ™ is the container for the social network and provides all the potentials and possibilities. It won't be a finished solution to a problem though. That is up to the community and 3rd party developers to customize Anahita for their own unique needs. As much as everyone would rather find the perfect solution to match their problem to the last detail, projects that are more general have a much higher chance to evolve and survive in different ecosystems.

By the way I have also posted answer to your other question What does reusable folksonomy API mean?
I think I'll bump this up to the top because people are asking again. :)

Everything you see right now except photos and discussions ;)
I made the topic sticky just for you Cyndy :)
:) :)
I think now that the Anahita Social Engine is available to public there is not need to keep this topic sticky

If I am reading this correctly, are you stating there will be 2 separate softwares, one for Joomla CMS and a stand alone? Also, how can I obtain a copy to play around with as an admin to view how the backend works?

nope! Anahita Social Engine is 3 frameworks (Anahita, Nooku, Gantry) packaged in a light and striped down version of Joomla 1.5 as a distro. You can extend it by installing Anahita Social Apps.
